EXTRUDING SUSTAINABILITY
PVCu's long lifespan makes it a very sustainable product
PVCu windows and doors have a long and low maintenance lifespan, which can see them last up to 30-40 years. What is more impressive, is the high quality reuse of PVCu, where it can be recycled up to 10 times, meaning a single window or door has a new life expectancy of 350 years!
This recyclability makes PVCu windows and doors one of the most sustainable products currently available in the building and home improvement market.
Selecta Systems and PVCu certainly has a large part to play in sustainability and reducing the impact on the environment.
LEAD FREE MATERIALS
PVCu window and door profiles extruded from LEAD FREE calcium zinc based materials.
"Selecta Systems were one of the first UK system houses to extrude all of our profile with 100% lead free PVCu. Producing 100% lead free profiles makes it easier to recycle at its life end, therefore safer for the environment. Selecta continually strive to improve our environmental performance and reduce our carbon footprint."
EXTRUDING ENERGY
A 402kW solar PV system upon the Selecta warehouses
As part of Selecta's environmental continual improvement programme solar PV was installed in May 2011.
The original solar PV system compromised of 1652 solar panels with an output of 305kW.
The system was further extended in April 2013 with an extra 416 solar panels installed - taking the total to 2068 and giving a total system size of 402kW. That's enough generated electricity to power over 100 three bedroomed homes!
All energy generated by our solar PV system is used on site, assisting the running of the 24/7 operation of the extrusion plant. Between 10-15% of our annual energy usage is generated by our solar PV system.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME
The Environmental Continuous Improvement Programme is aimed at reducing our impact on the environment
"Selecta Systems Environmental Continuous Improvement Programme has seen the introduction and implementation of various low energy improvements across the business. LED lighting has been installed in all offices with motion detectors. This has been extended to our warehouse spaces. More energy efficient machinery and motors have been installed within our extrusion, thus reducing our energy usage. Further plans include the purchase of three brand new lorries to meet the stricter ULEZ requirements in UK cities."
